The Rosetown Photography Club began in January 1983 with a membership of 17 in its first year. Pat Coulter served as the first president, a position she held until she moved away in 1991. Stan Hingston took over as president for 1992 and is still holding this position. Membership averages about 15 members. From the first year, the Club was active in the Prairie Region of Photographic Arts (PRPA) and participated in the Saskatoon Camera Club’s Transparency Battle and the Foto Fun slide competition sponsored by the Gleneath Camera Club of Kindersley. Over the years the Club has invited many different photographers to speak or hold workshops for members on a variety of photographic topics. The Club also sponsored public slide shows by various photographers including George Tosh, Courtney Milne, and the Karpans. Two successful fundraisers in 2005 (Ritchie Studio negatives and “Rosetown – a Look Back” DVD) raised enough money for the Club to purchase a good scanner and a large format printer and turn the club’s darkroom into a “digital darkroom”. Club members are now enjoying the ability to make large prints of their photographs easily and inexpensively. A more detailed history that was written for the 2006 Rosetown Community History Book can be seen here [link]. |
